Steep is an open-world extreme sports game developed by Ubisoft Annecy and published by Ubisoft. It was released on December 2, 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and it focuses on freeriding across a huge, snow-covered stretch of the Alps.
There are no fixed tracks to follow. You pick a peak, choose a sport, and find your own line down the mountain. At any moment you can switch between skiing, snowboarding, paragliding, and wingsuit flying, then drop in again somewhere new.
Exploration drives progress. You use binoculars to spot new drop zones, unlock races, trick challenges, and stunt events, and earn rewards for creative runs. A built-in replay editor lets you rewatch and share your best lines.
Steep is an online game, so the mountain is shared with other players. You can ride solo or group up with friends to explore, race each other, and set challenges for one another. Mountain Stories add short, voiced events that give some peaks a bit of personality.
The game suits players who enjoy relaxed exploration, freestyle tricks, and sandbox-style sports games more than strict racing. Fans of Ubisoft's later action sports title can also compare Riders Republic prices.
PC: PC keys activate on Ubisoft Connect or Steam. Steam copies still require a Ubisoft account and the Ubisoft Connect launcher.
PS4 and Xbox One: Console codes are redeemed on PlayStation Network or a Microsoft account. These versions also play on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility.
Editions: Besides the Standard Edition, Ubisoft sold Gold and X Games Gold editions that bundle the Season Pass content. Check which edition a listing includes.
Online access: An internet connection is needed to play, including solo sessions.
Before you buy, check the activation platform and region on each offer, then follow our guide on how to activate your CD key. For game details, see the official Steep website.
