Strange Brigade is a third-person action-adventure shooter developed and published by Rebellion, the studio behind Sniper Elite. It launched on August 28, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch version following in 2021.
Set in 1930s Egypt, the game follows a team of four adventurers sent to stop Seteki, an ancient witch queen who has risen with an army of mummies, scorpions, and cursed creatures. A cheerful radio-serial narrator comments on the action throughout.
Combat mixes guns with environmental traps such as spinning blades, spikes, and fire jets you can trigger to clear crowds. Each hero has an amulet power fueled by souls of fallen enemies, and weapons can be upgraded with gems found in tombs.
Levels hide puzzles, secret rooms, and treasure. You can play the campaign solo or with up to four players online, and extra modes include Horde and Score Attack. A Season Pass adds new campaign chapters, characters, and weapons.
The four heroes, Frank Fairburne, Nalangu Rushida, Gracie Braithwaite, and Archimedes De'Ath, each have a different amulet ability and starting loadout. Levels are large enough to reward exploration, with hidden cat statues, relics, and blueprints for extra weapons scattered across tombs and jungles.
It suits groups of friends looking for light-hearted co-op action and players who enjoy pulp adventure themes.
PC: PC keys usually activate on Steam and need about 35 GB of storage.
Consoles: PS4, Xbox One, and Switch codes redeem on PlayStation Network, a Microsoft account, or Nintendo eShop.
Deluxe content: The Season Pass and character packs are separate DLC and require the base game.
