Stronghold: Definitive Edition is a real-time strategy and castle-building game developed and published by Firefly Studios. It is a rebuilt version of the original Stronghold from 2001, and it was released on November 7, 2023 for Windows PC.

The game is set in a war-torn medieval England. The King has been betrayed by his own lords, and you take command of scattered forces to reunite the realm against four villains: the Rat, the Snake, the Pig, and the Wolf.

Each mission mixes economy and warfare. You gather wood, stone, and food, set taxes and rations, keep your peasants happy, and turn resources into walls, towers, and armies. Missions range from breaking sieges and capturing enemy castles to building strong fortresses and holding off assaults.

The Definitive Edition includes both classic campaigns across 26 missions, plus a new 14-mission campaign designed by series founders Simon Bradbury and Eric Ouellette. A new Castle Trail adds 10 historical siege scenarios. The artwork was remade by the original artists, the soundtrack was remastered, and some original voice actors returned.

Which version should you buy?
