Tavern Keeper is a fantasy management simulation developed and published by Greenheart Games, the studio behind Game Dev Tycoon. It entered Early Access on Steam for PC on November 3, 2025, so content and features are still being added.
You build and decorate a tavern, hire staff, stock the larder, and serve a steady stream of customers. Whether you run a cozy neighborhood taphouse or a profit-focused operation, your choices shape how the business grows. Adjustable difficulty lets you play for relaxed decorating or a tougher business challenge.
Many systems overlap to create unexpected situations. Dirt, heat, noise, flammability, sickness, and demanding patrons can turn a calm night into chaos, such as staff falling ill or a stray spark setting the tavern on fire.
A narrative campaign takes you to new locations across a fantasy world, each with its own challenges. Along the way, a storybook RPG layer offers hundreds of short, choice-driven encounters, fully narrated by Steven Pacey. You meet characters such as immortal elementals, halfling philosophers, and an eccentric orc inventor.
Design Mode lets you place and adjust thousands of items freely and even combine pieces into custom furnishings. Tavern Keeper is single-player and suits fans of management sims, decorating sandboxes, and light-hearted fantasy stories.
PC: PC keys usually activate on Steam. The game needs 64-bit Windows 10 or later and 10 to 20 GB of storage.
Early Access: The game is in Early Access, so features and balance may change before the full release.
Base game vs add-ons: Steam also lists a separate supporter pack. Make sure an offer is for the base game.
