An alien probe is detected heading toward Earth while an unknown force sets up in the Kuiper Belt. Nations fail to unite, so secret groups of political, military, and scientific leaders form to decide humanity's response. You lead one of seven factions, each with a different goal, from resisting the invasion to serving the aliens, negotiating surrender, profiting from chaos, or fleeing the Solar System.

Later, the game moves into space. You build stations and bases on moons, asteroids, and planets, manage mining and supply, design ships, and fight fleet battles in a tactical combat mode with realistic orbital movement.
