The Council is an episodic narrative adventure developed by Big Bad Wolf and published by Focus Entertainment. The first episode released on March 13, 2018 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and the Complete Season includes all five episodes.

You explore a grand mansion, investigate rooms, talk to guests and gather clues. Unlike most story adventures, the game adds RPG-style progression. You invest points in 15 skills across paths such as diplomacy, occultism and detective work, and those skills open new options in conversations and exploration. Consumable items restore effort points, so preparing before each conversation matters.

The standout system is Confrontations. During key conversations, you use skills and limited resources to manipulate or persuade other characters, using what you know about each one's weaknesses and immunities. Failing does not end the game, but every result is permanent and can leave lasting physical or mental traits.

The story begins in 1793. Secret society member Louis de Richet is invited to a private island off the coast of England by the mysterious Lord Mortimer, where his mother has recently vanished. Fellow guests include Napoleon Bonaparte and George Washington, and everyone seems to be hiding something. It is a single-player game.

The Council suits players who like murder mysteries, historical intrigue, branching dialogue and choices that cannot be undone.
