The House of the Dead 2: Remake is an on-rails horror shooter developed by MegaPixel Studio and published by Forever Entertainment. It is a remake of the second game in the House of the Dead series, first released in arcades in 1998. The remake launched on PC on August 7, 2025, with PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One versions following on October 24, 2025, and a Nintendo Switch version also available.

The game moves you along a fixed path while you aim and shoot at waves of undead creatures. Fast reactions, accurate shots, and quick reloads keep you alive, and rescuing civilians can change what happens next. Branching levels and multiple endings give each run a reason to replay.

The story is set in February 2000, when a city is overrun by hostile creatures. AMS agents James Taylor and Gary Stewart are sent in to investigate an outbreak that resembles the Curien Mansion incident from the first game.

Alongside the Classic Campaign, Boss Mode challenges you to defeat bosses as fast as possible, and Training Mode offers practice scenarios. You can play alone or with a second player in local co-op. The remake adds modern graphics and remastered music, while the original soundtrack is also available.

It suits fans of arcade light-gun shooters, short replayable runs, and couch co-op horror action.

Which version should you buy?

• PC: Most PC keys activate on Steam. The game needs 64-bit Windows 10 and about 7 GB of storage. A gamepad is recommended.

• Consoles: PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch codes are redeemed on PlayStation Network, a Microsoft account, or the Nintendo eShop.

• Remake vs original: This is a new remake, not the 1998 arcade or Dreamcast release, so check that listings name the Remake.
