The game offers a two-life system: when you die in Axiom, you're transported to Umbral for a second chance. If you die again in Umbral, you respawn back in Axiom at your last save point and lose unspent experience points called Vigor.
At the start, you personalize your character's appearance and choose from nine varied character classes. You develop your own playstyle by upgrading stats and weapons. The campaign can be completed alone or with another player in online co-op, with both casual and full shared progression options available.
Lords of the Fallen has received over 70 post-launch updates, including version 2.0, which revamped the combat system, improved performance, and added new questlines and modes. Version 2.5 is now out with deadlier boss battles and all-new Veteran Mode.
