The Stone of Madness is a real-time tactical stealth game developed by The Game Kitchen, the studio behind Blasphemous, and published by Tripwire Presents. It released on January 28, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
The story is set in a Jesuit monastery in the Pyrenees that holds both an asylum and an inquisitorial prison. Five prisoners, Agnes, Leonora, Eduardo, Amelia and Alfredo, combine their skills to uncover the monastery's secrets and escape.
You switch control between all five characters and use their upgradable abilities to cast spells, distract guards, stun spirits, reach hidden areas or take out targets. Each prisoner has phobias and traumas, and triggering them drains sanity. When sanity runs out, effects such as paranoia or bouts of violence change how that character plays.
Time flows continuously. Days suit sneaking, exploring and gathering materials, while nights bring tighter security and paranormal threats, so evenings are best spent planning. Two full campaigns offer separate stories and objectives, each with its own special characters. Planning the escape between outings and keeping each prisoner's mind intact is a big part of the strategy, since mistakes carry over as time keeps moving.
It is a single-player game. It suits fans of stealth tactics games and dark hand-drawn art inspired by Goya's paintings.
