The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a third-person asymmetrical multiplayer horror game developed by Sumo Digital and published by Gun Interactive. It was released on August 18, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, and is based on the 1974 horror film.
Each match pits three players on the Slaughter Family against four players as Victims. The Victims start captured in the Family's basement and must escape by staying quiet, picking locks, finding tools, and choosing one of several exits. The Family hunts them down, guards exits, and works together to stop anyone from getting away.
A key system is Grandpa. Family players collect blood and feed it to him, which powers up his ability to sense Victims who move too fast or make noise. This pushes Victims to balance speed against stealth, while Family members need to keep Grandpa fed to stay in control of the map.
Every character has unique abilities and a skill tree. Leatherface breaks through barriers with his chainsaw, the Cook locks doors and listens for Victims, and the Hitchhiker sets traps, while Victims each have strengths such as stealth, toughness, or lock-picking. Matches take place on maps based on locations from the film, such as the Family House and the Gas Station.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre suits players who enjoy team-based horror, tense hide-and-seek gameplay, and fans of the original film. It is an online-only multiplayer game with no single-player campaign.
