The Thing: Remastered is a third-person survival horror shooter remastered by Nightdive Studios and published by Nightdive Studios and Atari. It is an updated version of the 2002 game by Computer Artworks and was released on December 5, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
The story picks up where the 1982 film The Thing ends. You play Captain J.F. Blake, leader of a U.S. Special Forces team sent to Outpost 31 in Antarctica to find out what happened to the American research team. Your squad soon meets a shape-shifting alien that can copy the people it kills.
The standout system is trust and fear. Squad members react to what they see and to how you treat them. You can run blood tests, share weapons, and keep them calm, but frightened teammates may refuse orders, panic, or turn out to be infected and attack.
Across 20 levels, you lead your team against creatures ranging from small head-spiders to large multi-tentacled beasts. Ammo, health, and tools such as flamethrowers matter, and squad specialists like engineers and medics help you get through locked doors and injuries.
The remaster adds modern visuals, including dynamic lighting, anti-aliasing, 4K resolution, and up to 144 FPS. It is a single-player game that suits horror fans, players who enjoy classic 2000s action games, and fans of the film.
