The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is a story-driven action role-playing game developed and published by CD PROJEKT RED. It is an improved release of The Witcher from 2007, the first game in the series, and arrived in September 2008 for PC, with a version also available on Mac.
You play as Geralt of Rivia, a witcher trained to hunt monsters for money. The story opens with Geralt suffering from memory loss after being found near the witcher fortress of Kaer Morhen. When a criminal group raids the keep and steals secret witcher knowledge, Geralt follows the trail to the city of Vizima and into a political conflict.
Combat uses timed mouse clicks and three sword styles for strong, fast, and group enemies. Geralt carries a steel sword for humans and a silver sword for monsters, and he can cast magical Signs such as Aard and Igni. Alchemy is key: you gather herbs and monster parts to brew potions and oils before tough fights.
The game is known for moral choices that are rarely simply good or bad, and many decisions show their results hours later. Side activities include dice poker, fist fights, and monster contracts. The Enhanced Edition adds better animations, reworked dialogue and translations, faster loading, and two extra adventures.
It is a single-player experience that suits fans of mature fantasy, branching stories, and players who want to see where Geralt's game journey began before The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3.
PC: Keys usually activate on Steam or GOG. The Steam release is the Director's Cut of the Enhanced Edition.
