Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Gold Edition is a tactical first-person shooter package developed by Ubisoft Montreal and Red Storm Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. It combines Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield (2003) with the Athena Sword expansion, and the Steam version was released on September 25, 2008.
Each mission starts with preparation. You pick operatives from elite counter-terrorism and military units, choose armor, weapons and gear, then plan each squad's route on a map to maximize surprise and safety.
Once the plan is set, you lead one squad in first person or control all three through radio commands. Objectives include clearing rooms, rescuing hostages, defusing bombs and recovering intelligence.
Raven Shield sends Team Rainbow to England, Norway, the Caribbean and Rio de Janeiro to stop a doomsday plot. Athena Sword adds an eight-mission campaign across Italy, Croatia and Greece, seven more weapons for 64 in total and three updated classic missions.
Athena Sword originally added five multiplayer maps and three modes, including Adversarial Terrorist Hunt and Capture the Enemy, but Steam notes that online multiplayer and co-op have not been accessible since August 2016. Its sound effects came from the team that worked on The Matrix. The game is in English only.
It suits fans of slow, planning-heavy tactical shooters and players curious about the series before Rainbow Six Siege.
