Tools Up! is a local co-op party game developed by The Knights of Unity and originally published by All in! Games, now known as Untold Tales. It was released in December 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

You and your friends play a team of home renovators who must finish an apartment makeover before the owners return. Each level runs on a timer, and tasks include painting walls, tearing off wallpaper, cleaning, redecorating and moving couches into place.

The challenge comes from teamwork. With several jobs running at once and the clock ticking, players have to split up tasks, avoid getting in each other's way and communicate quickly to finish in time.

Up to four players can join on one screen. The PC version supports four-player split keyboard play, controllers and Steam Remote Play Together, so friends can also join online through Steam. Solo play is possible, though the game is designed around groups.

Post-launch Garden Party DLC episodes, such as The Tree House and Tunnel Vision, added new levels, and the later Tools Up! Ultimate Edition bundles the updates, all DLC and a new player-versus-player mode.

It suits families, couples and friend groups looking for a fast, funny couch co-op game in the style of time-pressure teamwork party games.

Which version should you buy?

• Activation: PC keys activate on Steam. Console codes redeem on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store or Nintendo eShop.

• Editions: The standard edition is the base game. Tools Up! Ultimate Edition is sold separately and includes all DLC plus a versus mode.

• DLC: Garden Party episodes and the Season Pass require the base game.
