Towerborne is a side-scrolling action RPG brawler developed by Stoic, the studio behind The Banner Saga, and published by Xbox Game Studios. After a period in early access, the full 1.0 version launched on February 26, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

You play as an immortal warrior sent out from the Belfry, the last safe haven, to push back the corruption spreading across the world. Each expedition takes you through side-scrolling stages packed with monsters, where you chain light and heavy attacks, dodges, and special abilities into combos.

Between runs you return to base to upgrade your character. The 1.0 release added a Forge system, new gear and abilities, a reworked world map, two new bosses, and a rebalanced difficulty system with a tougher Brutal mode. Cosmetics can be earned through play, and multiple save slots are supported.

The campaign can be played solo or in online co-op with up to three other players. At full launch the game moved from a planned free-to-play model to a one-time purchase and can now be played offline.

The world map ties expeditions together and lets you choose where to head next as your gear and skills improve. Each weapon type changes your move set, so experimenting with builds is a big part of the fun. A new soundtrack and a reworked story campaign were also part of the 1.0 overhaul.

Towerborne suits players who enjoy classic beat 'em ups, loot-driven progression, and drop-in co-op sessions with friends.
