Turrican Flashback is a retro action compilation published by ININ Games, featuring games originally developed by Factor 5. It was released in January 2021 for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
The collection includes four entries from the series: Turrican, Turrican II, Mega Turrican, and Super Turrican. These games first appeared on home computers and 16-bit consoles in the early 1990s and helped define the European action platformer. Super Turrican and Mega Turrican were built for the SNES and Mega Drive.
Each game mixes run-and-gun shooting with exploration. Levels are large and full of hidden paths, power-ups, and secret areas. You switch between weapons, morph into a spinning wheel, and use special attacks to clear tough enemies and large bosses. Boss fights reward learning attack patterns over several tries.
The release adds display options for sharp pixels, smooth widescreen, or a CRT shader, plus an optional dynamic HUD and updated control schemes. The music by Chris Huelsbeck is kept, along with a new title track. Play is single-player only.
Turrican Flashback suits retro fans, players who grew up with Amiga or 16-bit consoles, and anyone curious about a classic run-and-gun series. The difficulty is old-school, so expect to learn levels over several attempts. The small download size also makes it an easy addition to a Switch library.
Nintendo Switch: Codes redeem on the Nintendo eShop. The download is small, at about 78 MB.
PlayStation 4: Codes redeem on PlayStation Network. The PS4 version also runs on PS5 through backward compatibility.
PC: There is no PC release of Turrican Flashback.
