Windows 7 Home Basic is an entry-level edition of the Windows 7 operating system. It was originally distributed in selected markets as a lower-cost option for home users and basic PCs. Compared with Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate, Windows 7 Home Basic has fewer multimedia, networking and business features. It does not support joining a Windows domain, BitLocker encryption, Remote Desktop host, Windows Media Centre or the full Aero interface. The edition was available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions, so buyers need installation media compatible with the target PC’s processor and drivers. A Windows 7 Home Basic Microsoft key may be useful only for restoring a qualifying legacy system or operating software with a fixed Windows 7 dependency. Windows 7 is unsupported and no longer receives standard security updates, making a supported modern operating system the safer option for normal use.
