After the events of World of Warcraft: The War Within, the Void Harbinger Xal'atath launches a massive invasion to seize the Sunwell, the sacred source of power for the blood elves. Her goal is to corrupt or control this immense font of magic and use it to further the Void's plans for Azeroth.
Players return to Quel'Thalas, including a rebuilt Silvermoon City, to defend the region from the invasion. A major theme of the expansion is the reunification of the scattered elven peoples—blood elves, high elves, void elves, night elves, and nightborne—who must set aside old conflicts to face a common enemy.
The story also explores the growing conflict between the cosmic forces of Light and Void. Heroes fight alongside champions of the Light, including Alleria Windrunner and Turalyon, while confronting Xal'atath's attempts to plunge Azeroth into darkness.
In simple terms:
Midnight is about defending the Sunwell, uniting the elven races, and stopping Xal'atath's Void invasion before it can corrupt Azeroth's future.
The expansion serves as the middle chapter of the Worldsoul Saga, setting up the final expansion, World of Warcraft: The Last Titan.
