World War Z is a co-op third-person shooter developed and published by Saber Interactive, first released on April 16, 2019. Based on the Paramount Pictures film, it puts up to four players against massive zombie swarms in story-driven episodes set in locations such as New York, Moscow, Japan and Jerusalem.
The game is built on Saber's Swarm Engine, which renders hundreds of zombies on screen at once. Hordes behave like crowds: they pile up in narrow corridors and climb over each other to reach players on higher ground. You pick one of several classes, such as Gunslinger, Hellraiser, Slasher, Medic, Fixer, Exterminator and Dronemaster, then level them up and unlock weapon upgrades. Alongside the co-op campaigns, PvPvZ modes pit two teams against each other while zombies attack both sides.
World War Z fits groups of friends who like fast co-op action in the style of Left 4 Dead 2 or Back 4 Blood. The later World War Z: Aftermath release adds new episodes, the Vanguard class and a first-person mode. A World War Z CD key is a low-cost way to join the fight. See the official World War Z website for updates.
