What is Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night?

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is an exploration-focused, side-scrolling action RPG developed by ArtPlay and published by 505 Games. It launched on June 18, 2019 and is led by Koji Igarashi, the producer widely credited with shaping the "Igavania" style of Metroidvania design. The game was crowdfunded on Kickstarter before release.

You play as Miriam, an orphan whose body is slowly turning to crystal because of an alchemist's curse. To save herself and humanity, she must fight through a demon-infested castle summoned by Gebel, an old friend who has become more crystal than flesh. The loop is classic Metroidvania: explore a large interconnected map, defeat bosses, gain new abilities and return to reach areas you could not access before. Miriam can use a long list of weapons and spells, and she can upgrade, level up and visually customize her gear. The 2.5D presentation places 3D models in a 2D playfield, and a fully voiced cast includes David Hayter, Ray Chase and Erica Lindbeck.
