Contra: Operation Galuga is a side-scrolling run-and-gun action game developed by WayForward and published by Konami. It released on March 12, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The game reimagines the original 1980s Contra with modern graphics and sound, new stages, new enemies and bosses, and reworked mechanics. The Red Falcon terrorist group has seized the Galuga Islands off the coast of New Zealand, and commandos Bill Rizer and Lance Bean go in to stop them.
You run, jump and shoot through eight stages, from jungle and waterfall climbs to a hovercycle chase through an enemy base, ending each with large boss fights. Classic weapons like the spread shot, laser and homing missiles return with stackable upgrades and new Overload abilities, and each playable character has distinct skills. Story Mode supports two-player co-op, while Arcade Mode supports up to four players in local co-op. Three difficulty settings and extra challenge options let you tune the pressure.
