Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour is a first-person shooter developed by Nerve Software with Gearbox Software and published by Gearbox Publishing. It launched on October 11, 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and arrived on Nintendo Switch on June 23, 2020.
The package collects the four original episodes of Duke Nukem 3D and adds an all-new fifth episode, World Tour. Its eight levels were built by original designers Allen Blum III and Richard "Levelord" Gray and send Duke to real-world cities.
Gameplay stays true to the 1996 classic: fast movement, secret-filled maps, keycards, jetpacks, and a wide arsenal from the shotgun to the shrinker. Episode Five adds the Incinerator weapon and new Firefly enemies. You can switch between the original 2.5D look and an updated True3D renderer.
Composer Lee Jackson wrote new music for the fifth episode, and Jon St. John returns with new one-liners and re-recorded lines. In-game developer commentary from the original team explains how many levels were designed.
Besides the single-player campaign, the PC version lists online co-op and competitive multiplayer modes. It suits fans of retro shooters, speedrunners, and players who want to see where many 1990s level design ideas came from.
PC: PC keys activate on Steam. The game is a 64-bit Windows release with English audio and text.
Consoles: PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions are redeemed on PlayStation Network, a Microsoft account, or the Nintendo eShop.
Content: Every version includes all four classic episodes plus the new World Tour fifth episode.
