ELEX is an open-world action role-playing game developed by German studio Piranha Bytes, creators of the Gothic and Risen series, and published by THQ Nordic. It launched on October 17, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The setting is Magalan, a planet hit by a comet that brought ELEX, a powerful resource that grants magic-like powers but strips people of their emotions.
You play as a fallen commander caught between the factions fighting over ELEX. The world mixes medieval fantasy, post-apocalyptic ruins and science fiction technology, so you may swing an axe in one fight and fire a plasma rifle in the next. The map is fully seamless with no loading zones between regions, and a jetpack lets you reach rooftops, cliffs and any other point in the world. Quests are tightly interconnected, and your choices decide whether emotion or cold logic shapes Magalan's future.
Combat covers close and ranged fighting and rewards careful stamina management. If you liked the freedom of Risen 2: Dark Waters or the classic Gothic games, ELEX follows the same open, systemic design. An ELEX CD key unlocks the game on Steam, and the story continues in ELEX II.
