HELLCARD is a roguelike deckbuilder developed by Polish studio Thing Trunk and published by Skystone Games. It left Early Access with its full release on Steam on February 1, 2024. The game is a stand-alone spin-off of Book of Demons and part of Thing Trunk's Return 2 Games series, a set of titles that reimagine classic 1990s PC games with simplified, modern mechanics.
Each run takes you down through papercraft dungeons in fast tactical card battles against the armies of the Archdemon. What sets HELLCARD apart from other deckbuilders is that monster placement matters: enemies sit at different distances from your party, and your cards and positioning decide which of them you can hit. Battles support up to three heroes. You can play alone, recruit computer-controlled companions or join online lobbies with friends or strangers. Extra content, including the Bruja, the Blood Witch hero DLC, expands the roster.
It is a strong pick for fans of Slay the Spire-style runs who want co-op. A HELLCARD CD key for Steam is usually the cheapest way to add it to your library. You can follow the wider series on the official Return 2 Games website.
