Inscryption is a card-based roguelike with horror and puzzle elements, developed by Daniel Mullins Games and published by Devolver Digital. It released on October 19, 2021, from the creator of Pony Island and The Hex. You wake up across the table from Leshy, a mysterious figure in a dark cabin, and must win card battles against him to survive.
Each run has you build a deck of woodland creature cards through drafting, card upgrades and grisly sacrifices. Battles revolve around placing creatures on a board, sacrificing weaker cards to summon stronger ones, and tipping a scale in your favor. Between fights, you can leave the table and explore the cabin, solving escape-room style puzzles that unlock new secrets. The game does not stay in one format for long, and much of its appeal comes from how its structure changes as you uncover what is really happening, so it is best played with as few spoilers as possible.
Inscryption holds a Metacritic score of 85. It suits fans of deckbuilders like Slay the Spire 2 who also enjoy mystery, puzzles and unsettling atmosphere. An Inscryption CD key is a low-cost way to get the full game, which also includes the free Kaycee's Mod roguelike mode.
