Left Alive is a survival action shooter developed and published by Square Enix, released on PC through Steam on March 5, 2019, and also sold on PlayStation 4. The story takes place in 2127 in Novo Slava, a city torn apart by a sudden military invasion. You follow three different protagonists, each with their own route through the ruins, and their decisions open up multiple story paths with heavy consequences.
The game is built around the power gap between a lone survivor and a modern army. Armed troops, armored vehicles and huge Wanzer mechs patrol the streets, so open gunfights are risky. You scavenge materials, craft consumables, set traps and choose between stealth and direct combat. The project brought together director Toshifumi Nabeshima, known for the Armored Core series (fans of mech combat can also check Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon), character designer Yoji Shinkawa and mech designer Takayuki Yanase.
Left Alive suits players who like tense, resource-driven survival over run-and-gun action. Players have reported that its difficulty and stealth systems are demanding, so expect a slower, methodical pace. Picking up a Left Alive CD key through a price comparison site is a cheap way to try this cult Square Enix release.
