Metal: Hellsinger is a first-person shooter built around rhythm. Developed by Swedish studio The Outsiders and published by Funcom, it launched on September 15, 2022. You play The Unknown, a half-human, half-demon on a mission of revenge, fighting through the Infernal Planes to confront the Red Judge. The campaign moves through eight Hells, from the icy realm of Voke to the maddening world of Stygia, and Troy Baker narrates the story.
The core loop is simple to learn and hard to master. Shooting, slashing and dashing on the beat raises your multiplier, and as the multiplier climbs the music builds, adding vocal layers until each track plays at full force. Miss the beat and the song pulls back. Every track was written for the game by composer duo Two Feathers, with vocals from Serj Tankian, Randy Blythe and Alissa White-Gluz, among others. Outside the story, Torment challenges and the Leviathan wave mode add upgrade choices and leaderboard runs.
