Open Roads is a story-driven adventure game developed by the Open Roads Team and published by Annapurna Interactive on March 28, 2024. You play as 16-year-old Tess Devine, who finds a cache of old notes and letters in the attic with her mother, Opal. The papers hint at decades-old burglaries, family secrets and a lost fortune somewhere near the Canadian border, so the two set out on a road trip to find answers.
The journey takes you to a series of long-abandoned family properties, which you explore in first person to piece together what Opal has tried to forget. Between stops you spend time in the car, tuning the radio and talking with your mom. An interactive dialogue system moves the story forward and draws out flaws, secrets and buried truths. The art style pairs detailed 3D environments with hand-animated 2D characters. Keri Russell voices Opal and Kaitlyn Dever voices Tess.
