Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale is a shop management RPG developed by Japanese studio EasyGameStation. Carpe Fulgur translated and published the English version for PC on Steam in 2010. The original Japanese version came out a few years earlier.
You play as Recette Lemongrass, a young girl whose father has vanished and left a large debt behind. A fairy named Tear arrives to collect, and the two turn Recette's home into an item shop. You must earn enough money to make each loan payment on time, or lose the house.
Days are split between running the counter and gathering stock. In the shop, you set prices and haggle with each customer, reading their reactions to find the best deal. Outside, you buy goods in town or hire an adventurer to explore randomized dungeons and bring back loot. Prices that are too high scare buyers away, while prices that are too low hurt your profit, so learning each customer type pays off.
Recettear is a single-player game. After the main story, Survival Mode and Endless Mode let you keep trading and exploring with new goals. You can also redesign the shop's interior and choose how to lay out your stock on the shelves.
The game suits players who enjoy management sims, light dungeon crawling, and charming anime-style stories. It runs on almost any Windows PC, which makes it a good fit for older laptops.
PC: Recettear keys usually activate on Steam. The game is Windows only and has no console version.
Language: Text is in English, and the game keeps its original Japanese voice acting.
Editions: There is a single standard edition, so any valid Steam key unlocks the full game.
Before you buy, check the activation platform and region on each offer, then follow our guide on how to activate your CD key. For more details, see the official Recettear website.
