Remnant: From the Ashes is a third-person survival action shooter developed by Gunfire Games and now published by THQ Nordic. It was released on August 19, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and came to Nintendo Switch on March 21, 2023.

The world has been overrun by the Root, an ancient evil from another dimension. As one of the last survivors, you work from the hub of Ward 13 and travel through portals to other realms to find the source of the threat and push it back.

Each world is dynamically generated, so maps, enemy encounters, side quests, and events change between playthroughs. Combat mixes careful gunplay with dodging and melee, and many bosses have unique mechanics that reward learning their patterns.

Progress comes from loot and upgrades. You earn experience and materials to improve weapons and armor, add mods with special abilities, and unlock traits that shape your build. You can play solo or in online co-op with up to two other players.

It suits players who like challenging, Souls-inspired combat with guns, replayable runs, and co-op sessions with friends. The sequel, Remnant II, continues the story with new worlds and archetypes, so this is a good place to start the series.
