Returnal is a roguelike third-person shooter developed by Housemarque and published by PlayStation Publishing. It first launched on PlayStation 5 in 2021, and the PC version, ported with Climax Studios, arrived on Steam on February 15, 2023. You play Selene, an astronaut who crash-lands on the shape-shifting planet Atropos and is forced to restart her journey every time she dies.
Each cycle reshuffles the world and the items at your disposal, so every run calls for a different approach. Combat is fast and dense, mixing gunplay with bullet hell enemy patterns, while the story unfolds through the ruins of an ancient civilization. The PC release includes the full experience: Suspend Cycle saves, Photo Mode, online co-op for two players and the Tower of Sisyphus endless mode from day one. A Returnal CD key also unlocks PC extras such as five graphics presets, ultrawide and super ultrawide support and an in-game performance overlay.
