Rune Factory 4 Special is an enhanced version of the 2012 Nintendo 3DS role-playing simulation game Rune Factory 4, developed by Marvelous and published by XSEED Games and Marvelous Europe. It arrived on Nintendo Switch worldwide in February 2020, then on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on December 7, 2021.

You arrive in the town of Selphia and take on the role of its prince or princess. Daily life is split between growing crops, raising monsters, crafting and cooking, and exploring dungeons where real-time combat and boss fights move the story forward.

Relationships matter. You can befriend the residents, date, and marry, depending on whether you play as the male or female protagonist. The Special edition adds a new opening theme, an extra difficulty option, and a Newlywed mode that uses Live2D animation.

The game is single-player and offers a long story with plenty of side activities to fill each in-game season.

On PC, the game supports DualShock and DualSense controllers, Steam Cloud saves, and achievements. English and Japanese voice tracks are included, with text in French, German, Korean, and Chinese. Because it is a remaster of a handheld game, it runs well on modest hardware, including laptops with integrated graphics.
