Shenmue III is the third chapter of Yu Suzuki's long-running martial arts saga, developed by his studio YS NET. It launched on November 19, 2019 for PC and PlayStation 4, and the PC version later arrived on Steam in November 2020, where it is now published by ININ Games. The story picks up after Shenmue II: you play as Ryo Hazuki, an 18-year-old martial artist determined to avenge his father's murder and uncover the secret of the Phoenix Mirror, the artifact his father's killer wants.
Ryo's journey takes him through rural China, from quiet villages to mountain towns. The core loop mixes investigation with daily life. You question locals for leads, train to sharpen your fighting skills, and earn money through part-time jobs, gambling and arcade games. Fights use a real-time martial arts system with moves you can learn and level up, and cinematic sequences carry the main plot forward.
Shenmue III suits returning fans who waited years for the story to continue and players who enjoy slow-paced, atmospheric adventures with plenty of side activities. It is a single-player game with full voice acting in English and Japanese.
