Songs of Syx is a low fantasy city-builder and empire sim developed and published by the Swedish indie studio Gamatron AB. It entered Steam Early Access on September 21, 2020 and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. Its defining trait is scale: the game simulates tens of thousands of individual citizens and soldiers, each with their own needs, religion, fears and desires.
You start with a tiny settlement and grow it into a city state and then an empire. Every house, street and plaza you place affects how well you can feed, house and satisfy your population, and every building carries upkeep, so overexpansion can spiral into collapse. Different races, cultures and gods coexist, while day-night cycles, weather, droughts, disease, raiders and traders keep pushing the economy around. On the military side, you recruit and equip soldiers, gather vassals and mercenaries, and fight real-time battles with up to 50,000 individual units, all supplied by your own industry. If you like the survival pressure of Banished but want armies and politics on top, this is a natural next step.
Because the game is still in Early Access, the developer suggests trying the free demo first. A Songs of Syx CD key from a trusted seller usually costs less than the store price. Development updates are on the official Songs of Syx site.
