Sons of Valhalla is a side-scrolling strategy game with roguelike elements and base building, developed and self-published by Pixel Chest. It launched on PC through Steam on April 5, 2024, and holds a Metacritic score of 73. You play as Thorald Olavson, a Viking warrior who crosses the North Sea to hunt down the Jarl who burned his home and kidnapped his beloved.
The campaign plays out on a branching map of the English countryside while a storm closes in from the north. You choose which towns to raid, which merchants to visit and when to double back to a castle you could not take earlier. Resources earned in battle pay for gear, troop upgrades, buildings and siege engines, so every coin is a trade-off between the next fight and the long campaign.
In combat you control Thorald directly, swinging a sword beside your men while issuing orders, setting formations and calling on special abilities. Your warband can include swordsmen, archers, shamans who heal, berserkers and shieldmaidens. The pixel art and real-time sieges make it a good fit for fans of side-scrolling kingdom builders who want more hands-on fighting. A Sons of Valhalla CD key from a trusted seller is usually cheaper than full store price. See screenshots and trailers on the official Sons of Valhalla website.
