Squad is a tactical multiplayer first-person shooter developed and published by Offworld Industries. After a long Early Access period, it reached its full release on PC on September 23, 2020, and it continues to receive content updates.
Matches pit two teams of 50 players against each other on large maps based on real-world environments. Each team is split into squads of up to nine players, with a squad leader coordinating with other squads and a commander. Voice communication is central, since winning depends on teamwork more than individual skill.
Combat aims for realism. Weapons are faction-specific, scopes use a picture-in-picture view, and suppression, bandaging, and revives make every engagement slower and more deliberate than in arcade shooters. Players choose kits like rifleman, medic, machine gunner, or anti-tank to fill squad roles.
Combined-arms gameplay brings in trucks, armored vehicles, tanks, and helicopters, while forward operating bases and defenses can be built in the field. The game features 13 factions, including the US Marine Corps, Australian Defence Force, and Canadian Army, and 24 large maps. A newer Fireteam mode adds co-op PvE missions for up to five players.
Squad suits players who want large-scale military battles with real coordination, and it rewards those who use a microphone and follow squad orders.
PC activation: Squad is PC-only, and keys activate on Steam. There is no console version.
System needs: A 64-bit Windows 10 system, 8 GB of RAM, and about 65 GB of storage are required. A microphone is strongly recommended.
Related game: Squad 44 is a separate World War II shooter from the same publisher and is not included with Squad.
