Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster is a first-person shooter that brings the original 1995 LucasArts classic to modern hardware. Nightdive Studios rebuilt it in its proprietary KEX engine, and it launched on February 28, 2024 for PC and consoles. You play as Kyle Katarn, a former Imperial officer turned mercenary who works for the Rebel Alliance's covert operations division.
The campaign follows Katarn as he uncovers the Dark Trooper Project, a program building Imperial battle droids and power-armored stormtroopers. All fourteen original levels return, spread across Star Wars worlds and capital ships. You jump, duck and crawl through mazes and environmental puzzles while using ten weapons against twenty enemy types, from blasters to thermal detonators and landmines.
The remaster adds up to 4K resolution at 120 FPS, high-resolution textures, improved lighting and a weapon wheel for gamepads. An in-game toggle switches back to the classic look at any time. A Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster CD key suits retro shooter fans and Star Wars players who enjoyed the Kyle Katarn era; newer fans of the setting can follow up with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. See the official Steam page for full details.
