What is The Ascent?

The Ascent is a solo and co-op action-shooter RPG developed by Neon Giant. It launched on July 29, 2021 for PC and Xbox, with PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions following in 2022. It was originally published by Curve Digital, and the Steam listing now names KRAFTON as publisher.

You play as an indent, a worker owned by the Ascent Group, the mega corporation that runs the arcology of Veles. When the company suddenly collapses, rival syndicates and gangs move in, and you have to fight to survive while finding out why it fell.

Combat is fast twin-stick shooting viewed from an isometric camera. You can raise your aim to shoot over cover, take cover yourself and use tactical gear, while destructible scenery keeps firefights chaotic. Between missions you upgrade weapons, augmentations, cyberware and armor to fit your playstyle.

Veles is a dense, multi-level open world packed with neon-lit districts, side quests and characters. You can play the full campaign alone or with up to three friends in online or local co-op.

The game suits players who like loot-driven shooters, cyberpunk settings and co-op sessions with a bit of RPG depth.

Which version should you buy?
