The Cub is a 2D cinematic platformer developed by Demagog Studio and published by Untold Tales. It was released on January 19, 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
The story takes place a few years after Earth's wealthiest people left a ruined planet behind and moved to Mars. An orphaned child, the Cub, has adapted to life in the overgrown ruins of Alphaville. When a Martian research mission returns to study the planet, it turns into a hunt with the Cub as the target.
Gameplay focuses on running, climbing, and leaping through hazards such as mutated animals, electrified plants, and long drops. Chase scenes, minecart jumps, and flying sections add variety. One touch from a hazard ends a run, but frequent checkpoints keep retries quick.
A recovered Martian helmet lets the Cub tune in to Radio Nostalgia from Mars, which plays songs and stories from those who left. Collectible books, newspapers, USB sticks, and teddy bears reveal how society fell apart. The game is single-player and takes about two to three hours.
The Cub shares its world with Demagog's earlier games, including Highwater. It suits players who enjoy short, story-driven platformers with a strong art style and soundtrack. Its precise jumps can be demanding, but quick checkpoints keep the pace moving.
PC: Most PC keys activate on Steam. The game needs a Windows 10 PC and about 12 GB of storage.
Consoles: PlayStation codes redeem on PlayStation Network and Switch codes on the Nintendo eShop. Check the code region before you buy.
Soundtrack: Radio Nostalgia from Mars is also sold separately as a soundtrack, so make sure a listing is for the game itself.
Before you buy, check the activation platform and region on each offer, then follow our guide on how to activate your CD key. For more details, visit the official The Cub website.
