The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes is a cinematic branching horror game developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Released on October 21, 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, it is the third standalone entry in the anthology. At the close of the Iraq War, US Special Forces searching for weapons of mass destruction break into a buried Sumerian temple and find a nest of hostile creatures. To survive the night, they must work with the Iraqi soldiers they were fighting above ground.
Like other games from the studio behind Until Dawn, it plays as an interactive horror film. You switch between five characters, make dialogue and moral choices, and react to quick-time events. Every playable character can live or die, and those choices shape the ending. Shared Story mode lets two players go through the story online, and Movie Night supports up to five players passing one controller offline. The Curator's Cut unlocks after the main story with new scenes from other characters' views.
