The Midnight Walk is a first-person dark fantasy adventure developed by MoonHood, a studio formed by developers behind Lost in Random and Fe, and published by Fast Travel Games. It launched on May 8, 2025 for PC and PlayStation 5, and a Nintendo Switch 2 version followed on March 26, 2026.
You play as the Burnt One, who befriends Potboy, a small living lantern, and escorts him toward the top of Moon Mountain. Monsters want his flame, so progress depends on lighting candles, hiding, sneaking past threats and using Potboy's light as a distraction.
There is no traditional combat. Instead, puzzles lean on light, sound and timing, and closing your eyes to listen can reveal hidden paths and secrets. Later, a matchlock lets you light candles from a distance.
Its standout feature is the art: every character and location was first sculpted in real clay, 3D scanned and animated in a stop-motion style. The story is told through five tales of fire and darkness, and the whole game can be played on a flat screen or in VR. It is a single-player experience, and reviewers put a playthrough at roughly seven to eight hours.
It suits players who enjoy atmospheric, story-led adventures with light horror, stealth and puzzles rather than action-heavy gameplay.
PC: Keys activate on Steam; the game supports SteamVR headsets as well as standard flat-screen play.
PlayStation 5: The PS5 version redeems on PlayStation Network and supports PlayStation VR2.
Switch 2: The Nintendo Switch 2 edition is a separate eShop purchase released in March 2026.
Check the activation platform and region on each offer before buying, and read how to activate your CD key if you need help. MoonHood's earlier work includes Lost in Random, and more details are on the official MoonHood website.
