The Sinking City is an investigation and adventure game developed by Ukrainian studio Frogwares, the team behind the Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter detective series. First released on June 27, 2019, it is set in Oakmont, Massachusetts, a half-submerged 1920s city gripped by supernatural forces. You play a private investigator who arrives to uncover what has taken hold of the city and the minds of its people.
The game draws on the universe of H.P. Lovecraft for its oppressive atmosphere and story. Oakmont is an open world you explore on foot, by boat and in a diving suit. Cases are open-ended: you gather clues, connect evidence and reach your own conclusions, and different deductions lead to different outcomes. When investigations turn violent, you fight nightmarish creatures with weapons from the 1920s, while keeping an eye on your mental health as the horror wears you down.
On Steam the game is now sold as The Sinking City Remastered, rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 with Lumen global illumination, ray tracing, 4K textures, DLSS and FSR support, HDR, a photo mode and improved controls and combat. A cheap The Sinking City CD key suits fans of cosmic horror and detective games, and it is the natural starting point before the sequel, The Sinking City 2.
