Thronefall is a minimalist strategy and tower defense game developed by Grizzly Games, the studio behind Islanders, and published with Mythwright. It entered Early Access in August 2023 and launched in full on October 11, 2024 for PC and macOS, followed by Nintendo Switch on February 3, 2025.

Each day you ride around your small kingdom and spend gold on buildings. Houses, mills, fields, harbors, and gold mines boost your income each morning, while walls, towers, and barracks prepare you for what comes next.

When night falls, waves of enemies attack from several directions. You are not just watching: as the king, you ride into battle with your chosen weapon and lead your troops. If the castle center falls, the run is over, so you need to balance a strong economy against a solid defense.

There are 10 maps with different terrain, weather, and enemy types, from barrel knights and ogres to catapults and flying mages. You can unlock 9 weapons and over 50 perks, equip up to 5 perks per run, and add optional mutators for a harder challenge. The game is single-player with leaderboards.

Thronefall suits players who want short, satisfying strategy sessions, and fans of Bad North, Kingdom Two Crowns, or classic tower defense who like a hands-on hero.

Which version should you buy?

• PC and Mac: Most PC keys activate on Steam, which supports both Windows and macOS. The game needs only about 1 GB of storage.

• Switch: Switch codes are redeemed on the Nintendo eShop with a Nintendo Account.

• DLC: Expansion content such as Craaghelm is sold separately and needs the base game.
