Tokyo Xtreme Racer is a street racing game developed and published by Genki, and the first new entry in the long-running series in almost two decades. It entered Steam Early Access in January 2025, launched in full on PC in September 2025, and arrived on PlayStation 5 on February 26, 2026.

Races take place on a detailed recreation of Tokyo's Shuto Expressway at night. Instead of standard lap races, the series uses SP Battles: flash your lights at a rival, then pull ahead to drain their Spirit Points. The first driver to run out of SP loses, so clean lines and smart overtakes matter as much as top speed.

Over 450 rival drivers roam the highway, each with their own car and personality, and some only appear under special conditions. You earn money to buy, tune, and customize cars from more than 30 officially licensed manufacturers, with aero parts, vinyls, stickers, and paint options.

A new perk system lets you spend BP earned from battles on permanent upgrades to rewards, driver skills, and convenience features. The game is single-player and supports a range of steering wheels as well as controllers.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer suits fans of Japanese tuner culture, night driving, and older street racers like the original Tokyo Xtreme Racer and Wangan Midnight games.

Which version should you buy?

• PC: Most PC keys activate on Steam. The game needs 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, 16 GB of RAM, and about 12 GB of storage.

• PS5: The PlayStation 5 version is redeemed on PlayStation Network. It added extra cars, a Music Selector, and Replay Mode, which also reached PC in a free update.

• DLC: Guest Rival packs are sold separately and need the base game. Check that a listing is for the full game.
