A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia is a standalone strategy game from Creative Assembly, published by SEGA on May 2, 2018, with Mac and Linux versions handled by Feral Interactive. It was the first Saga title, a format that zooms in on a single historical flashpoint instead of a whole era. The year is 878 AD: Alfred the Great has halted the Viking invasion at Edington, Norse warlords have settled across Britain, and the kings of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales sense a chance to seize power.
Gameplay follows the series formula of a turn-based campaign map paired with large real-time battles. You pick one of ten playable factions across Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, Gaelic clans, Welsh tribes and Viking settlers, then forge alliances, manage settlements and raise armies across what Creative Assembly called its most detailed Total War map at launch. The Grand Campaign allows victory through conquest, through renown earned by construction, technology and influence, or through faction-specific objectives, with a late-game challenge and a final Ultimate victory condition. Online and LAN multiplayer and co-op are also supported. A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia CD key suits players who prefer a tighter, regional campaign.
If you enjoy the Saga format, A Total War Saga: TROY applies it to the Bronze Age. Series news is on the official Total War website.
