We Happy Few is a first-person action-adventure game developed by Compulsion Games, the Montreal studio that made Contrast. It released on August 10, 2018, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The setting is Wellington Wells, a war-scarred city in an alternative 1960s England where residents take a pill called Joy to stay cheerful and forget the past, all under the watch of TV host Uncle Jack.
The campaign follows three intertwined stories, each with a different character who has their own strengths and weaknesses. You survive by blending in with the drugged population, sneaking past them or fighting back. Scavenging and crafting are central: you collect recipes and build dozens of weapons, tools and gadgets. The procedurally generated city changes between playthroughs, and difficulty options include permadeath. Players have reported that the survival systems and stealth can feel uneven, but the dark humor and setting stand out.
The Season Pass adds three story DLCs: They Came From Below, Lightbearer and We All Fall Down. A We Happy Few CD key is an affordable way to explore one of the more unusual dystopias in gaming.
