Witchfire is a single-player dark fantasy RPG shooter developed and published by The Astronauts, a Polish studio whose members previously worked on Painkiller and Bulletstorm. It entered Early Access on PC through the Epic Games Store on September 20, 2023 and arrived on Steam Early Access on September 23, 2024.

You play as a preyer, a wicked sinner transformed into an undead witch hunter. Your mission is to fight the Witch of the Black Sea and her witchfire-fueled army, in a world where the Church and the witches are at war.

Each expedition sends you into a large, open biome full of enemies. You collect resources and loot, then decide whether to extract safely back to your base, the Hermitory, or push your luck by facing one of the witch's powerful Familiars to unlock new areas and gear. If you die, you get one chance to return and reclaim what you lost.

Combat blends fast first-person gunplay with spells and soulslike challenge. Between runs you build your preyer with weapons, spells, and artifacts, while the Arcana roguelite system strengthens you after every encounter.

Witchfire suits players who enjoy tough shooters, extraction-style risk, and build crafting. As of mid-2026 the game is still in Early Access, with version 1.0 and a complete story planned for late 2026.

Which version should you buy?

• PC: PC keys usually activate on Steam, and the game is also sold on the Epic Games Store. Check which store a key is for.

• Early Access: Buying now gives you the Early Access version, and the studio has said it has no plans to raise the price at 1.0.

• Storage: The game needs 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 and about 55 GB of storage, with an SSD strongly recommended.
