Gloomhaven is a tactical RPG and the digital adaptation of Isaac Childres' board game of the same name. Flaming Fowl Studios developed it with Saber Interactive, and Twin Sails Interactive published it. After an early access period, the full version launched on October 20, 2021, on Windows and macOS, and a console version followed later. The setting is a grim medieval fantasy world where you lead a band of two to four mercenaries who take jobs from city officials, cultists and anyone else who pays.
Combat is turn-based on hex-grid maps, and cards drive every action. Each turn, every mercenary plays two ability cards, using the top half of one and the bottom half of the other. Cards double as your stamina, so burning through them leads to exhaustion. The game offers 17 characters and more than 1,000 abilities, plus enhancements, perks, level-ups and gear. The Campaign mode adapts the board game's branching story across 95 missions, while Guildmaster mode offers a separate, more structured progression. You can play alone or in online co-op with up to four players.
