Toren is a third-person fantasy adventure and the first game from Brazilian indie developer Swordtales, published by Versus Evil and released on Steam on May 11, 2015. You play the Moonchild, a girl destined to climb Toren, a huge tower, on a solitary journey to discover her purpose and win her freedom.
The hook is growth. As the story moves forward, the Moonchild ages from an infant into a grown woman, and each stage of her life introduces new mechanics and challenges. The Tree of Life inside the tower grows with her, opening new areas to explore and new items to find. Progress comes from environmental puzzles, avoiding and surviving attacks from dangerous creatures, and a final boss encounter. Scrolls of poetry scattered through the tower reveal the story and the origins of Toren, wrapped in symbolic dark fantasy storytelling and an original score.
