UBOAT is a Second World War submarine simulator developed by Polish team Deep Water Studio and published by PlayWay. After a long early access period, version 1.0 launched on Steam on August 2, 2024. It differs from classic sub sims because you control the boat through its crew: you give orders to individual sailors, assign them to stations and look after their physical and mental health while hunting convoys and evading escorts.
The game blends survival sandbox and management. An extensive damage system creates emergencies you have to solve on the spot, from leaks to failing equipment, and resources run short far from port. You can switch off devices to save battery power, send sailors to their bunks to save oxygen, or lift morale with a game of Skat or music from the radio. Assignments from Kriegsmarine headquarters are non-linear and can change mid-patrol. Completing them earns budget and reputation that you spend on boat upgrades, new torpedo types, sonar decoys, CO2 absorbers and officer missions that speed up research.
UBOAT suits players who want a slower, systems-heavy simulation with tension in every patrol. A UBOAT CD key activates on Steam, where the game supports Steam Workshop mods and two DLC packs, including Type IX: Distant Coasts.
